Beautiful Fantasy Art: Walfrido

My last post on a favourite fantasy artist of mine had a great response (thanks for your lovely comments!), so I'm back again, this time focusing on the work of... Hawaiian artist Walfrido!

I first discovered Walfrido's paintings 9 years ago. I instantly loved his vibrant, dramatic style, which I feel really manages to capture the 'essence' of the place that he's painting.

About the Artist

Walfrido is a Hawaiian artist born in the Philippines. His father Eduardo F Garcia was also a well respected artist and his son's mentor.

Mainly a painter of natural scenes such a seascapes, waterfalls,volcanoes and caves, Walfrido's artworks use bright colour and interesting explorations of light to create beautiful, romantic and powerful paintings.

Aswell as painting and exhibiting his own art, Walfrido is an art teacher and demonstrater. He also produces the 'Art made easy' videos. And, for all who love Disney, Walfrido has recently painted a series of Disney artworks.

My favourite Walfrido painting has to be 'Dockside Dreams'.

To look up more about Walfrido and his work go to his website www.walfrido.com and social media platforms…

Byron's poetry -a convert!

Up until a few years ago I had never read any of Lord Byrons poems. I'd heard of him, of course, and as I delved deeper into Georgian and Regency history, I learned much about Byron, and his life and times.
Eventually, I sought out some of Byrons poems, and I'm so glad I did!

The first one I read was 'She walks in beauty', and its since become one of my all time poetry favourites! I love the Romantic poets and their writings, and 'She walks in beauty' is a great example -beautiful, passionate and imaginative.

She walks in beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
